Fasteners vary between chairs (Phillips, Allen, hex) and some heads are recessed or capped; a few bolts may be partially rounded or previously overtightened, which slows identification and access.

Collect tools and set up checklist

Gather the wrench sets, torque wrench, flashlight, rag, and clipboard; open a checklist and note the reading room zones to inspect.

Walk each chair, sit and gently rock to detect seat or back movement; mark chairs that wobble on the checklist with location or ID.

Identify fastener types and access issues

At each marked chair, inspect each fastener head type and exposure, clean debris from heads, and note any rounded or capped bolts that need extra tools or attention.

Tighten fasteners and record torque

For each identified loose fastener, hand-start and tighten with the correct tool, then apply the torque wrench to the manufacturer spec if available or tighten until there is no play and record the final torque or adjustment in the checklist.

Re-test each serviced chair for wobble to confirm stability, return tools to their storage, and file the completed checklist with notes on any damaged fasteners needing replacement.
