Stamp pad ink check and refill
Quick procedure to confirm stamp legibility and top up ink at the circulation desk; run when impressions look faint or as part of a morning station check.
⏱ 10 min ★ Easy
Target
The circulation desk stamp pad looks dry and produces faint or incomplete impressions on test paper.
Obstacle
Ink on the pad is low and patchy, so adding too much or applying drops unevenly causes pooling or streaks; the correct refill bottle and disposable supplies are stored in the supply area and must be retrieved.
Expectation
The stamp pad makes clear, complete impressions and the pad surface appears evenly saturated with ink.
Materials
- • Stamp pad ink (matching color) — 1 bottle
- • Disposable gloves — 1 pair
- • Paper towels — 3 sheets
Steps
- 01 Prepare workspace and retrieve suppliesPut on gloves, lay a paper towel under the stamp pad, and bring the matching ink bottle to the desk.⏱ 1 min
- 02 Inspect pad and perform a test impressionOpen the pad and press the stamp on scrap paper three times to confirm faint areas and document whether impressions are incomplete or patchy.⏱ 2 min
- 03 Refill pad with measured dropsLift pad cover and add 3–5 small drops of ink across the driest areas, spacing drops evenly and avoiding puddles; wait 30 seconds and gently press the pad surface once to distribute.⏱ 3 min
- 04 Retest and add small top-ups as neededStamp on scrap paper and compare impression to a clear reference; if faint areas remain, add one drop to those spots and retest until impressions match the reference.⏱ 3 min
- 05 Clean up and store suppliesWipe any spilled ink with paper towel, replace pad cover, return ink and gloves to storage, and note refill in the circulation log.⏱ 2 min
