Clear printer paper jam and test print

When a shared printer displays a paper-jam message, follow this routine to remove trapped paper and verify printing works.

⏱ 15 min ★ Medium
Target

The network printer shows a 'paper jam' error and paper is visibly stuck inside one or more access trays or the output path.

Obstacle

Paper may be torn and lodged in the duplex path or fuser, requiring access to multiple panels and careful removal to avoid damaging rollers. Small scraps can be hard to spot and stay behind if not inspected closely.

Expectation

All jammed paper and scraps are removed, panels are closed, the printer shows no error, and a printed test page completes successfully.

Materials
  • • Printer paper — 3 sheets
Steps
  1. 01
Power down and open access panels
Turn off the printer, unplug the power cord, wait 10 seconds, then open the front and rear jam access panels and the paper tray.
    ⏱ 2 min
  2. 02
Locate and remove visible jammed paper
Trace the complete paper path, grasp intact sheets with both hands and pull slowly in the paper-feed direction, and remove any whole sheets from input, output, and tray areas.
    ⏱ 5 min
  3. 03
Inspect rollers and internal paths for scraps
Rotate visible rollers by hand, use a flashlight to find torn pieces, remove any small scraps with fingers, and check inside the fuser and duplex modules for lodged bits.
    ⏱ 4 min
  4. 04
Close, reconnect and run test print
Close all panels and trays, plug the printer back in and power it on, then print a test page from the printer menu or computer and confirm a full page prints with no error messages; if error remains note the error code and contact support.
