Garden Tool Lending Box Inspection and Oiling

Inspect the community garden lending box and oil tools after a rental period or before seasonal storage to keep tools safe and ready for the next user.

⏱ 30 min ★ Easy
Target

The lending box contains used tools: some are dirty, a few have surface rust, moving parts feel dry, and the inventory sheet is incomplete or missing counts.

Obstacle

Tools have variable levels of dirt and light surface rust that slow inspection and require brushing; the inventory sheet is partly missing which makes verifying presence and condition of every tool harder.

Expectation

All tools will be removed, cleaned of loose dirt and surface rust, lightly oiled on shafts and moving parts, counted against an updated inventory, and any damaged items flagged for repair or replacement.

  3. 03
Brush off dirt and light rust

  4. 04
    Oil moving parts and shafts
Apply a small amount of light machine oil to pivot points, hinges, and metal shafts, operate moving parts once or twice, then wipe off excess oil with a rag

    Return tools and update records
Place tools back neatly in the box, write final counts and note items needing repair or replacement on the inventory sheet, and close the box
