Public Art Rotation and Wire Safety Check

Rotate a mounted public artwork to its new orientation and verify all suspension wires and anchors are safe. Use this when scheduled rotation coincides with routine safety inspection or after reports of visible wear.

⏱ 30 min ★ Medium
Target

Artwork is mounted in its current orientation and several suspension wires are untagged or show surface corrosion at connection points.

Obstacle

Top anchor sits near overhead fixtures and requires ladder positioning that restricts torque wrench movement, slowing access and measurement. Some wire terminations show surface fraying that requires careful handling to verify actual remaining strength.

Expectation

Artwork is reoriented to the new alignment, all suspension wires and anchors pass visual and torque checks, damaged components are tagged for replacement, and inspection photos and notes are recorded.

Steps
  1. 01
    Secure area and stage access
Place caution signage and clear a 2 m perimeter, position ladder on stable surface and assemble tools at hand to avoid repeated trips
    ⏱ 5 min
  2. 02
    Visual and tactile wire inspection
Inspect each suspension wire end-to-end for broken strands, corrosion, kinks, and measure visible fray length; mark any wire with fray longer than 5 mm using an inspection label
    ⏱ 7 min
  3. 03
    Anchor and hardware verification
Check each anchor, hanger, and shackle for corrosion and thread engagement, measure anchor bolt torque to specified value and record any out-of-spec readings
    ⏱ 7 min
  4. 04
    Rotate artwork and load test
Rotate artwork to the new orientation, hang it on verified hardware, confirm level within 5 mm, then apply a static load equal to 10% of rated hanging load for 60 seconds and observe for movement or slippage
    ⏱ 7 min
  5. 05
    Document results and secure site
Photograph all inspected points and final orientation, log torque values and label replacements needed, remove signage and return tools to storage
    ⏱ 4 min
