Here We Go, VauDium!
From VolunTas to VauDium. A domain we couldn't afford led to a name change — and a new direction for the company.
Here We Go, VauDium!
VauDium is a word created by combining Gaudium, which means joy, and Vitae, which means life.
But it wasn’t always called that.
A Name Called VolunTas
Our company was originally called VolunTas. It’s a Latin word meaning “will,” and we quite liked it. But when we tried to secure the domain, voluntas.com already belonged to someone else — and the asking price was far more than we could afford.
As a workaround, we chose the name VVolunTas and purchased a domain with two V’s.
At the time, that didn’t bother me too much. I’ve always liked the letter V — I can’t quite explain why, but it simply feels strong and stylish. Having two of them seemed acceptable.
Still, as time went on, VVolunTas just didn’t sit right. It didn’t feel like us.
Searching for Something More Active
So I began to think about changing the name, and at the same time, I searched for a word that carried a more active, forward-moving energy.
What is the purpose of life? Where do people find the strength to keep going? What is passive, and what is truly active? I asked myself these questions.
Through those thoughts, I arrived at a simple conclusion.
What ultimately keeps people moving forward is joy.
I believe that joy is the value pursued by those who actively carve their own paths in life.
VauDium
VauDium is a company created with the goal of supporting people who seek that joy in life — your joy, to be precise.
I truly hope that it becomes exactly that.
