Analysis

Use the Current / Expectation / Obstacle framework to clarify any goal.

What is Analysis?

Every task in Fecit has an optional Analysis section with three fields. Together, they form a simple but powerful framework — similar to what's known as GAP Analysis in business:

📍
Current
Where am I now?
🎯
Expectation
Where do I want to be?
🧱
Obstacle
What's in the way?

Why it works

Most tasks fail not because of lack of effort, but because of unclear goals. When you write down your current state, the gap between where you are and where you want to be becomes visible. When you name the obstacles, they become problems to solve instead of vague anxieties.

"A problem well-stated is a problem half-solved." — Charles Kettering

How to fill it in

1. Start with Current

Describe your situation honestly. Don't judge — just observe. Be specific about what exists (or doesn't exist) right now.

Example: "I have no investors interested in our product yet."

2. Describe your Expectation

Write the same situation, but as you want it to be. The contrast between Current and Expectation reveals the gap you need to close.

Example: "Investors are interested and we've secured seed funding."

3. Identify your Obstacles

What stands between Current and Expectation? These become actionable problems. Each obstacle can turn into a sub-task.

Example: "Limited network in the investor community, no pitch deck ready."

More examples

🏃 Morning Run
Current: Can barely run 1km without stopping
Expectation: Run 5km comfortably three times a week
Obstacle: Hard to wake up early, knee pain after running
📚 TOEIC Preparation
Current: Score is 650, can't understand listening sections
Expectation: Score 900+ with confident listening comprehension
Obstacle: Limited study time after work, vocabulary gaps
🎨 Learn UI Design
Current: No design experience, using default templates
Expectation: Design clean, professional interfaces independently
Obstacle: Don't know where to start, overwhelmed by tools

Tips

  • You don't need to fill in all three. Even writing just the Current state helps clarify your thinking.
  • Obstacles become sub-tasks. Once you identify what's blocking you, create a sub-task for each obstacle.
  • Revisit after completion. Compare your Analysis with your Review to see how reality matched your expectations.
  • Use difficulty and priority. The Analysis section also includes difficulty and priority pickers to help you gauge effort and importance.
