What's inside
Use this routine when a retractable projection screen shows slack or visible creases before a presentation. It guides safe inspection, localized crease removal and careful re-tensioning to restore a flat projection surface.
The retractable screen hangs with visible horizontal creases and slight slack along the bottom bar, causing uneven projection.
Creases are set into the coated fabric and overheating risks surface damage; the top hem and tension springs are hard to reach and require cautious, small adjustments to avoid introducing new distortions.
The screen fabric hangs flat with creases reduced or removed, the bottom bar level, and the tension mechanism providing even lateral tension for a smooth projected image.

- 01 Safety check and document conditionTurn off power to any motorized screen, position the stepladder centered under the housing, take a photo of the full screen, and mark each visible crease with removable sticky notes so you can target treatments.⏱ 5 min
- 02 Lower and measure defectsFully lower the screen, measure bottom-bar level at both ends (record difference in mm), note crease locations and approximate width/length, and identify any damaged coating areas to avoid treating.⏱ 5 min
- 03 Apply controlled heat and smooth creasesUse the handheld steamer on low setting at ~20–30 cm distance, apply 2–3 second steam bursts along a crease while immediately smoothing the area with a microfiber cloth or plastic smoothing tool; repeat up to three passes per crease and avoid soaking the fabric.⏱ 15 min
- 04 Re-tension, level and test projectionRaise the screen, make small tension adjustments to springs or set screws (incremental 1/8 turns), lower and project a test grid, confirm bottom-bar level within 5 mm and absence of horizontal crease lines, and document final settings.⏱ 5 min
