What's inside

Daily sketching practice

A focused 30-minute session to build drawing habits and loosen up; use it when you have a short break or at the start of your art time.

⏱ 30 min★ Easy
Target

Today's sketchbook page is blank and I haven't made any sketches yet.

Obstacle

I tend to overwork early marks or spend too long deciding subjects, which causes the session to end with only one incomplete study. That makes it hard to build momentum across different quick exercises.

Expectation

By the end I'll have four timed sketches that cover gesture, mid-value shapes, composition thumbnails, and a quick observational study, plus a one-line note about the next practice.

    Value block-in
Choose a simple subject and block major light and dark shapes with broad strokes to establish values in a 10-minute study.

Make three 3-minute thumbnails and one 1-minute quick alternative to explore composition and focal point.

    Observational study and notes
Do a 5-minute focused observational sketch of one detail, then write a one-line note about what to practice next.
