Cheese and Fruit Plate

Prepare a simple, attractive cheese and fruit plate for a snack or casual gathering; use this when you need a quick serveable platter in under 20 minutes.

⏱ 17 min★ Easy
Target

Ingredients are scattered in the fridge and pantry, fruit is unwashed, cheeses are unopened, and no serving plate or bowls are ready.

Obstacle

Different textures require different cutting approaches (soft cheeses need gentle wedges, hard cheeses need firm slices) and limited counter space makes organizing tools and components slow.

Expectation

A single platter with cheeses sliced or portioned, fruit washed and cut, crackers portioned, and a small bowl of jam or nuts, ready to serve.

Materials
  • • Assorted cheeses — 300 g
  • • Mixed fresh fruit — 300 g
  • • Crackers — 1 box
  • • Nuts or jam (optional) — 1 jar
Tools
  • • Chef's knife and soft-cheese knife — 2
  • • Cutting board — 1
  • • Serving platter — 1
  • • Small bowls — 2
Steps
  1. 01
    Gather ingredients and tools
Bring cheeses, fruit, crackers, knives, cutting board, platter, and two small bowls to the counter and place them within arm's reach.
    ⏱ 2 min
  2. 02
    Wash and cut fruit
Rinse all fruit under cold water and pat dry; core and slice apples or pears into 1 cm wedges, leave grapes whole, and set cut fruit on a plate or in a bowl.
    ⏱ 5 min
  3. 03
    Slice and portion cheeses
Unwrap cheeses; slice hard cheese into 3–5 mm slices or 2 cm cubes and cut soft cheese into 6–8 uniform wedges using a clean knife, placing each cheese on its own section of the platter.
    ⏱ 4 min
  4. 04
    Arrange crackers and accents
Place crackers in two stacks of about 8 crackers each, put small bowls with jam/honey and nuts on the platter, and create three clusters (cheese + fruit + crackers) spaced evenly around the plate with ~2 cm gaps between clusters.
    ⏱ 4 min
  5. 05
    Final check and quick clean
Wipe the cutting board and knife, move the platter to the serving area, cover loosely if not serving immediately, and rinse used bowls or place scraps in the compost.
