What's inside

Evening tea and journaling ritual

A short wind-down ritual to quiet the mind before bed by drinking a warm cup of tea and recording focused notes in a journal; use this on evenings when you feel scattered or want a clearer mental stop to the day.

⏱ 30 min★ Easy
Target

You are replaying tasks and conversations in your head, you do not have a warm beverage prepared, and your journal is closed on the nightstand.

Obstacle

Making tea and deciding what to write add small frictions that cause you to skip sitting down; when you do sit, the blank page and wandering thoughts make it hard to start.

Expectation

After the ritual you will have finished a cup of tea, written three concise journal items (gratitudes, a highlight, and a simple plan for tomorrow), and have a clearer head ready for sleep.

Materials
  • • Tea (bag or 2g loose leaf) — 1 bag
  • • Optional sweetener or milk — 1 tsp
Tools
  • • Electric kettle or pot — 1
  • • Mug — 1
  • • Journal — 1
  • • Pen — 1
Steps
  1. 01
    Gather tea and journal
Bring the kettle, mug, chosen tea, your journal, and a pen to the seat where you will sit; place the journal and pen to your dominant hand side.
    ⏱ 3 min
  2. 02
    Heat water and steep tea
Boil or heat water, place the tea in the mug, pour water and set a timer to steep for 7 minutes; return to your seat and take three slow breaths before the timer ends.
    ⏱ 7 min
  3. 03
    Sip and reflect
Over the next 10 minutes, sip the tea slowly and in your head list three things that went right today and one small worry you can postpone until tomorrow, one item per minute approximately.
    ⏱ 10 min
  4. 04
    Write the evening entries
Spend 10 minutes in the journal writing: three short gratitude lines, one two-sentence highlight of the day, and one 1-2 sentence actionable plan for tomorrow; close the journal and place the pen on top.
