What's inside

Cozy reading playlist

Create a warm, low-energy music playlist to accompany solo reading sessions; use when settling in with a book and you want unobtrusive background music.

⏱ 30 min★ Easy
Target

There is no dedicated reading playlist or the current playlist contains abrupt high-energy songs and doesn't sustain a calm session.

Obstacle

While searching I keep adding catchy or high-energy songs and the list becomes uneven; it's hard to judge which tracks will fade into the background during reading.

Expectation

A 40–60 minute playlist of 20–25 low-energy instrumental or soft-vocal tracks ordered for smooth transitions and minimal distractions.

Steps
  1. 01
    Define mood and constraints
Choose target length (40–60 minutes), preferred instrumentation (instrumental or soft vocals), tempo range (40–90 BPM), and list artists/genres to exclude; add these rules to the playlist description.
    ⏱ 5 min
  2. 02
    Collect candidate tracks
Search your streaming service and add 40–60 candidate tracks that match the rules, sampling a 30–60 second preview of each before adding and noting source or album if needed.
    ⏱ 10 min
  3. 03
Preview and narrow to final set
Listen to 60–90 second snippets of each candidate, remove tracks that feel attention-grabbing or too similar, and stop when you have 20–25 tracks.
    ⏱ 8 min
  4. 04
    Order tracks for smooth flow
Arrange the selected tracks so energy and instrumentation change gradually (group by tempo, key, or texture) and mark three natural break points for page turns.
    ⏱ 5 min
  5. 05
    Quick test and finalize metadata
Play the first 2–3 minutes uninterrupted to confirm transitions, make up to three swaps if a song stands out, then set playlist title, description, cover art, and save.
