Clear and clean counter
Remove unrelated items (mail, dishes, gadgets) from the chosen area and wipe the surface with a damp cloth so you have a clean 1-2 foot workspace.

Place appliances and route cords
Position the kettle and coffee maker on the cleared space, route cords behind the appliances away from the counter edge, and plug into the nearest outlet ensuring plugs are not under mats.

Stock consumables within reach
Transfer coffee into the airtight container if needed and place it with the box of filters within arm's reach of the brewer; label the container lid with 'coffee' if not already labeled.

Arrange mug and accessories
Place your everyday mug on the tray next to the brewer, add a spoon and sugar jar to the tray so everything needed for one cup is collected in one spot.
