Target

Puzzle is still packed or in a bag or box, the table surface holds personal items, and the reference image and pieces are not arranged for immediate work.

Obstacle

Library tables are limited in surface area and often have bags or books on them; without a flat clearing and small containers, pieces spread, mix, or risk falling to the floor.

Expectation

A 2x3 ft workspace is cleared, the reference image is face-up, pieces are sorted into an edge pile and a few color/feature piles in containers, and the table holds a ready-to-build frame.

Steps

Clear and claim table
Remove personal items and reserve a 2x3 ft workspace on the table; place your bag and coat off the surface and pull your chair into position.

Expose reference and arrange trays
Open the puzzle box, set the reference image face-up within view, place the box lid or a flat tray as your main sorting surface, and position containers to your dominant-hand side.

Empty and sort pieces
Empty pieces onto the lid or tray, pull out all edge pieces into one pile, then create three distinct piles by color or feature (for example sky, foliage, building) and put each pile in a separate container.

Form the frame and start a cluster
Arrange edge pieces around the tray to build the puzzle frame, set aside any tiny loose pieces, and connect an initial cluster of five interior pieces from one color pile to begin assembling.
