Trim candle wicks and clean jar surfaces to improve burn quality and appearance before the next use or display.

Target

Wicks are charred or uneven and jar rims and glass show wax residue, soot, or fingerprints.

Obstacle

Charred wick tips and hardened wax flakes cling to the wick and rim, making clean cuts and residue removal awkward; sticky residue and fingerprints require a solvent and careful wiping to avoid spreading.

Expectation

All wicks are trimmed to 3–5 mm with loose char removed, jars have no visible wax or smudges, and candles are neatly arranged for display.

Materials

• Paper towels — 3 sheet
• Rubbing alcohol — 1 oz

• Wick trimmer — 1
• Small butter knife or offset spatula — 1
• Microfiber cloth — 1

Steps

Prepare workspace and cool candles
Ensure candles are fully extinguished and cool; clear a flat surface, lay down paper towels, and gather tools and rubbing alcohol.

Trim wicks
Use the wick trimmer to cut each wick to 3–5 mm and pinch or wipe away loose char into a paper towel; trim all wicks on multi-wick candles to the same height.

Remove wax residue from rims and glass
Lift hardened wax from rims with the butter knife and discard, then apply a small amount of rubbing alcohol to a paper towel to remove sticky residue and soot from rims and glass interior edges.

Polish glass and arrange display
Buff jars with the microfiber cloth until clear, replace or add decorative filler or labels if desired, and position candles evenly on the display surface.
