What's inside

Park bench reading break

A short outdoor reading session on a park bench to reset focus and enjoy fresh air during a work or study break.

⏱ 30 min★ Very easy
Target

You have a free 30-minute window but your book is inside, phone notifications are on, and you haven't picked a place to sit.

Obstacle

Phone notifications and last-minute decisions about what to read eat into the break; walking to a bench and settling in often takes longer than planned.

Expectation

You will be seated on a park bench with your chosen reading material open, phone on silent with a 20-minute timer running, and a water bottle at hand.

Tools
  • • Book or e-reader — 1
  • • Reusable water bottle — 1
  • • Reading glasses (optional) — 1
  • • Phone with timer — 1
  • • Small bag or tote — 1
Steps
  1. 01
    Gather reading kit
Choose one short book or article, fill your water bottle, put reading glasses in your bag, and set your phone to silent; close any distracting tabs.
    ⏱ 3 min
  2. 02
Walk to and claim a bench
Walk to the nearest suitable bench within the park, scan for an unobstructed seat, sit facing a pleasant view, and place your bag beside you.
    ⏱ 10 min
  3. 03

Start a 20-minute timer on your phone, read continuously for the timer duration, and mark one sentence or idea in the book or notes when the timer ends.
    ⏱ 15 min
  4. 04
    Wrap up and return
Pack your items, turn phone notifications back on, and record one short sentence of what you read or how you feel before walking back.
