Target

Sidewalks, road gutters, and the small park edge near my house have scattered wrappers, cans, and cigarette butts and I have not collected any trash yet.

Obstacle

I hesitate because I am unsure which route to cover and I don't want to touch trash with bare hands; I also don't have an easy way to carry a bag and picker together.

Expectation

After the walk, visible litter will be collected into sealed bags, high-traffic spots cleared, and small recyclables separated for disposal.

Materials

• Trash bags — 2 30L
• Disposable gloves — 2 pair

• Litter picker (grabber) — 1
• Reusable tote or bucket — 1

Steps

Assemble kit
Put on a pair of disposable gloves, open one trash bag and fold a second into the tote, grab the litter picker and hand sanitizer, and put on a reflective vest if walking near traffic.

Walk route and collect litter
Walk the sidewalk and park loop at a steady pace, scan each side for trash and use the grabber to place items into the open bag, pausing to inspect bus stops, benches, and gutters within a 3-meter radius.

Sort and secure waste
Move cans and bottles to a separate spot in the tote for recycling, compress bulky items to save space, then tie and seal the full trash bag.

Return and dispose
Carry sealed trash and recyclables to the appropriate outdoor bin or drop-off, sanitize your hands, and wipe down the picker and tote before storing.
