The rug has a blanket and cushions arranged, snacks and drinks are plated within reach, and a small trash bag is placed nearby for wrappers.

    Gather picnic items
    Collect snacks, drinks, plates, napkins and a small trash bag from the kitchen and bring them to the living room counter so everything is together before you start

    Lay blanket and arrange seating
    Spread the picnic blanket on the rug, center it relative to the seating area, and place two cushions for back support

    Set up serving area
    Place the low tray or board on the blanket, transfer snacks to plates and open drinks, and position the trash bag at the blanket edge within arm's reach
