Stovetop Popcorn with a New Seasoning

Make a fresh batch of popcorn on the stove and finish it with a seasoning you haven’t tried before. This is a quick snack routine for an evening at home or whenever you want to experiment with a new flavor.

⏱ 15 min★ Easy
Target

You want popcorn, but you haven’t made a batch or chosen a new seasoning yet.

Obstacle

The kernels can burn if the pot stays over high heat, and dry seasoning may not stick to the popcorn. Shake the pot as it pops and season while the popcorn is still warm.

Expectation

You have a bowl of crisp stovetop popcorn coated with a new seasoning that you enjoy.

Materials
  • • Popcorn kernels — 1/3 cup
  • • Cooking oil — 2 tablespoon
  • • New seasoning — 1 teaspoon
Tools
  • • Large pot with lid — 1
  • • Large bowl — 1
Steps
  1. 01
    Choose and measure the seasoning
Pick one new seasoning and measure about 1 teaspoon, adjusting the amount if its label recommends a different starting portion.

Add the remaining kernels in an even layer, cover the pot, and gently shake it every few seconds until popping slows to about 2 seconds between pops.
    ⏱ 6 min
  4. 04
    Season and taste the popcorn
Pour the popcorn into the bowl, sprinkle on the seasoning while it is warm, toss to coat, and taste one piece before adding more.
