What's inside

Stovetop Flatbread

Make soft, flexible flatbreads in a skillet when you need a quick base for a meal or a side for soup, curry, or dips.

⏱ 30 min★ Easy
Target

No dough has been mixed, and there are no flatbreads ready to serve.

Obstacle

The dough can feel sticky or dry if the water is added too quickly. Uneven thickness can also leave some breads pale while others scorch.

Expectation

You have warm, lightly browned flatbreads that bend without cracking.

Materials
  • • All-purpose flour — 2 cup
  • • Warm water — 3/4 cup
  • • Olive oil — 2 tablespoon

  • • Baking powder — 1 teaspoon
Tools
  • • Mixing bowl — 1
  • • Rolling pin — 1
  • • Skillet — 1
  • • Spatula — 1
Steps
  1. 01
    Mix and knead the dough

  2. 02
    Rest the dough
Cover the dough and leave it at room temperature so it relaxes and becomes easier to roll.
    ⏱ 10 min
  3. 03
    Divide and roll
Divide the dough into 6 equal pieces and roll each on a lightly floured surface into a round about 2 millimeters thick.
    ⏱ 6 min
  4. 04
    Cook the flatbreads
Heat the skillet over medium heat and cook each round for about 1 minute per side, turning when bubbles form and checking for brown spots.
