Beginner Jump-Rope Rhythm

Use this routine when you’re new to jump rope and want to find a steady pace without rushing. Short practice rounds help you coordinate your hands and feet while keeping the effort manageable.

⏱ 20 min★ Easy
Target

You can’t yet keep the rope turning and your feet jumping in a steady rhythm.

Obstacle

Your hands may turn the rope at a different speed from your jumps, causing it to catch your toes. Trying to jump too high or speed up can make the timing harder to control.

Expectation

You finish able to complete several short sets of single jumps at a steady pace, with relaxed shoulders and fewer rope catches.

  3. 03
    Find the bounce rhythm
Without the rope, make small two-foot hops in place for three 30-second rounds, keeping your elbows close to your sides and resting briefly between rounds.

  4. 04
    Practice single jumps
Turn the rope slowly and aim for one low jump per turn; complete six 40-second rounds with 40 seconds of rest, restarting calmly after each catch.

  5. 05
Cool down and note your progress
Walk gently for two minutes, stretch your calves for one minute, and record your longest uncaught run of jumps.
