Windowsill Microgreens

Set up and sow a small tray of microgreens to grow fresh greens on a sunny windowsill; use this when you have seeds and want a quick harvest within two weeks.

⏱ 22분★ 쉬움
현재

A packet of microgreen seeds, a shallow tray, and seed-starting mix are on the counter but not planted or labeled.

난관

Uncertainty about how densely to sow seeds and how much initial moisture the surface needs; small windowsill space limits container size and placement.

기대

A seeded tray with a damp layer of seed-starting mix is labeled and placed on the windowsill with a spray bottle ready for scheduled misting.

단계
  1. 01
    Gather supplies and pick spot
Collect seeds, seed-starting mix, tray, spray bottle, scissors, and measuring spoon; choose a south- or east-facing windowsill that gets 4–6 hours of light.
    ⏱ 3분
  2. 02
    Prepare tray and fill soil
Rinse and dry the tray if reused, then add 1/2 inch (about 1 cm) of seed-starting mix and level it, lightly firming without compressing.
    ⏱ 7분
  3. 03
    Sow seeds evenly
Sprinkle seeds in a single layer to cover the surface with light overlap, aiming for about 10–15 seeds per square inch, then press seeds gently into the soil for contact.
    ⏱ 5분
  4. 04
    Moisten and label
Mist the surface until uniformly damp (no standing water), cover with a clear lid or plastic wrap if you want higher initial humidity, write variety and date on a label and place on the windowsill.
    ⏱ 5분
  5. 05
Set daily checks and harvest plan
Set a daily alarm to mist once or twice and check for mold, remove cover after 3–5 days when cotyledons appear, and plan to harvest with scissors at 7–14 days when true leaves form.
